What is a superfood?

A superfood is any type of food that is highly dense in nutrients and good for your health. We use superfoods from the Traditional Chinese Medicine category that have been used in East Asia for thousands of years.

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a complete medical system that has been used to diagnose, treat, and prevent illnesses for more than 2,000 years. TCM is based on a belief in yin and yang, defined as opposing energies, such as earth and heaven, winter and summer, and happiness and sadness. Practices used in TCM include:

  • Acupuncture
  • Moxibustion
  • Herbal medicine
  • Nutrition
  • Chinese massage
  • Exercise, such as tai chi and qi gong
  • Cupping

How are your superfoods sourced?

Our herbs and fruits are grown in their respective native regions largely in China and Taiwan. We source our herbs and fruits from what we found to be the highest quality Asian herb suppliers in the country. Our suppliers have the most rigorous testing standards in the industry, testing for over 400 pesticide residues and heavy metal substances. We also never use sulphur for processing.

Are your drinks organic?

Our main ingredients (Jujube, Hawthorn, Chrysanthemum, Ginseng, Goji Berry, and Ginger) are all organic. All other ingredients are premium-grade, meaning they also go through rigorous testing and do not contain any traces of pesticides, heavy metals, or sulphur.

What do Bo-yi drinks taste like?

Asian Superfood Teas: Our Jujube tea has a sweet, apple like taste with a hint of cranberry. Our Hawthorn tea is tart and tangy, with a berry taste and a bit of earthiness. And our Chrysanthemum tea has a floral flavor with a round, buttery warmth.

Asian Superfood Powders: Our Vitality Ginseng herbal blend has a delightful bitterness with a sweet licorice aftertaste, rounded out by lemon flavors. Our Glowing Goji herbal blend has a subtle berry taste and a hint of earthiness with cinnamon flavors. And our Warming Ginger herbal blend is spicy and sweet, with a nice zing.

Are your drinks all natural and preservative free?

Yes! We did very little to alter the integrity of the actual herb and fruits, and we never use any artificial preservatives or artificial sweeteners.

I love your drinks, but how should I read the sugar content?

Jujube is sweet fruit that provides natural sugars. Also known as the Red Date, you can think of Jujubes as a variation of the Medjool Date (that you are likely familiar with), which is used as an natural alternative to sugar in many modern day recipes.

Hawthorn is a naturally tangy fruit, and we like to balance out the tartness with a soothing 100% wildflower honey!

What are the floating things inside the bottles?

For our Asian Superfood Teas, we use whole herbs and fruits instead of "natural flavors" or extracts to brew our beverages, so every once in a while, a few of the herb and fruit pieces sneak their way into the bottle. Don't worry - just shake the bottle a little and enjoy! The more herb and fruit remnants, the more nutritious :).

How and when should I enjoy a Bo-yi?

Asian Superfood Teas: You can enjoy a Bo-yi tea anytime of the day! None of our products contain caffeine. With your breakfast, after a yoga class or run, or in the evening to wind down. You can drink Bo-yi at room temperature, refrigerated, or over ice. You can even pour the tea into a mug and heat up in the microwave for those cozy feels.

Asian Superfood Powders: Our herbal powder blends are versatile to fit your daily routines. You can add them to your water bottle for an extra kick, pour in hot water for a relaxing cup of tea, or add them to your favorite smoothie, oatmeal, or yogurt. Feel free to get creative!

What is the serving size? Can I drink more than the serving size?

Our serving size is 12oz per bottle. You can drink Bo-yi more than once a day, but we always recommend everything in moderation and to check with your doctor if you are pregnant or have any sensitivities.

What is the shelf-life of your products?

Asian Superfood Teas: Our teas have a 1 year shelf life unrefrigerated. We recommend storing them in a cool, dark place, or in the refrigerator for optimal freshness. Refrigerate after opening and consume within 2 - 3 days.

Asian Superfood Powders: Our herbal blend powders have a 1 year shelf life. We recommend storing them in a cool, dark place. Do not refrigerate.
